National Institute of Fashion Technology – Spectrum 2014

The atmosphere at the NIFT campus was electric as students geared themselves for the much anticipated fashion event, Spectrum 2014. The campus was complete with creative decorations and installations which made heads turn. One such installation was an Egyptian sarcophagus which lay cross legged against its coffin. Other installations included a model of the devil standing at the center of a giant spider web surrounded by giant spiders, and a little girl sitting under an eerie banyan tree.
The theme for the fashion show was ‘Supernatural’ and the designs showcased lived up to the theme with their very own spinoffs from designer to designer. The show began with a few advertisements from the sponsors, High Sierra and VLCC and was followed by the first segment which the designer titled ‘The Resurrection of The Greek Gods’ which featured flowing white gowns and suits.
The entire cast of models consisted of students who earnestly did their part, walking the ramp with much vigor, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd. The next segment featured a Bollywood dance number by a student and was followed up by another ramp walk organized by the events fashion partner, Bombay High, which showcased a variety of casual attire.Next was the Knitwear Departments turn to step up to the platform and they brought with them a bevy of dresses, jackets and gowns which their models carried off with much grace. A particular outfit with large flowing angels wings garnered much attention and each item showcased was true testament to the talent of the young designers.High Sierra would air an advertisement of its own between every sequence, perhaps with the intent of beating their message into the audience’s heads. What followed was a display of a variety of bags by High Sierra which were worn by graceful women and shirtless men, sending the crowd into a craze. One song and a dance number later, it was time for the final event of the fashion show. As the music played the models made their way out looking bold and confident, wearing fabulous designs. The event was concluded with all the models and their designers coming out on stage for a final walk. The effort put into the event was spectacular, not just in terms of the fashion show but also the interesting decorations that the students had made. Spectrum 2015 will surely be an event to look out for.
