Mother-daughter injured in a roller-coaster accident
Two people were injured at mishap at Adlabs Imagica in a tragic incident. A woman and her daughter were hurt on the roller coaster ride called Bandits of Robin Hood, which tilted and hurt the Purnima Rathi (32) and her 16-year-old daughter Mamata. While Purnima suffered an injury in the head, her daughter was hurt in the lower jaw. The incident happened around 12:45 PM in the afternoon. The injured were admitted in the nearby Jakhotia Hospital.
The Rs 1,600-crore theme park, spread over 300 acres and located off Mumbai-Pune Expressway, opened for public in April last year. Vincent Pijnenburg, Chief Operating Officer Adlabs Imagica said “We have always complied with the maintenance and operational procedures recommended by the manufacturers of every ride. The safety of our guests and employees is our company’s utmostpriority. We regret this incident but are extremely grateful that everyone is safe.”
He added that, the theme park will be closed-down till further notice undertaking safety precautions.Ashutosh Kale Assistant Vice President Adlabs Imagica Safety and Security "In accordance with our daily safety procedures every ride is checked for safety and technical issues before being run for our guests through a night long maintenance schedule. 3 test runs were carried on the ride before opening it for the guests. We’ve never faced a situation like this before and we are coordinating with the ride manufacturer to ensure that no future untoward incident occurs.”They were injured when the roller coaster ride was stopped suddenly due to some technical issue, police said without giving details.But photographs reveal that the roller coaster actually went off the tracks. “We are still making inquiries into the incident and no case has been registered as of now. Four persons from two families were injured during the ride mishap,” superintendent of police, Raigad, Ankush ShindeIt is alleged that it took more than half-an-hour to rescue the injured. And it was fortunate that the few students from Sishu Mandir School, who were taking the ride escaped unhurt.
