When we talk about the best place in Mumbai where you can find artists getting a big platform to put forward their art in front of people is Jehangir Art Gallery. The gallery being one of the most prestigious and oldest in the city is very famous as it hosts exhibitions every week from various known artists. This week the gallery hosts four very unique and interesting exhibitions. The exhibitions are of photography, modern art form in paintings and a unique and very interesting sculptor’s display.

The first exhibition was the photography exhibition by the Photographic society of India. The Photographic Society of India was established in 1937. It is the only photographic society in Asia to hold its own premises and is affiliated from the Photographic society of USA. This week they hold their 64th All India Photography Exhibition presenting one of the best pictures chosen by the panel of judges from all over India. The photographs taken by Madan Umakant, Mahalik Santosh and Astro Mohan were the main attractions of the exhibition. The unique art work shows a snail like shape with the fish body, a fountain which appears like a wash word and bush turning into horns.

The gallery has always been known for the good paintings and this week too Mr. Maruti Shelke comes up with his paintings. The paintings depict the various forms of isolation and the paintings of diverse moods of father, mother and their relation with the child. We also got the opportunity to interact with the painter who himself is a professor as well. The professor says his own experiments lead him to paint such kind of paintings. When asked that if the everyone accepts and appreciates such modern art form, his reply was that “It takes right time to appreciate the art work!"

The last is, Silent Hand of Time by Mr. Jagdish Agrawal which is a beautiful representation of pictures taken by him in the past 50 years of his life. The photographs cover various aspects of Indian as well as the life outside India. The main attractions cover the photographs of Vathura fair, Varansai and Jaisalmer. The exhibition is up till 5th of February and surely a piece which none of the art lovers can afford to miss. The artist defines his clicks as, “Every moment the world is changing ..Suddenly my mind says light.. line.. form.. shape.. texture.. tones.. content.. are in harmony and my fingers click.”
