Kalaghoda, spreading awareness to ALL!

Kalaghoda, the biggest art festival in the city saw an outburst of creativity this year. The spectacular piece of art, all built out of recycled waste was the main attraction on the first two days of the festival. The entire stretch of the SP Mukherjee Chowk is brought to life with a gamut of colours. This year the festival gave out strong social message to the visitors. In a time like this, when the crime rate in the city is going on top day by day, young girl infants are being subjected to such heinous crimes like rape. The time when newspapers are flooded with the news of rapes and assault to the women, and when our environment cries out loud while we continue to exploit it. We have to be reminded of such social messages through these platforms of art to get our social life right.
Hindustan times in collaboration with a number of NGO’s worked in union towards a common cause. The organistaion MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) also had support on this mega event by

having a big banner at the entrance to spread awareness among the people. As one comes half way to the streetan entire structure made of plastic bottles also spread an awareness regarding recycling. They showed how used plastic bottles can be used to make beautiful structures with plants grown in it, spreading the message of Recycling.
It basically shows one how one can put creativity and imagination put even used things to use again. A range of paintings were done by students on safe sex, avoiding wastage of water and tree plantation. .
An NGO by the name of Anpan advocated against child sexual abuse. They wanted to make people aware of the fact that abuse can adversely affect the life of a child. The NGO known by the name of Bananas also made people aware about the work they as an organisation are carrying out on the betterment of the status of the female in the society.
Thus this year Kalaghoda is all about educating the people on the various social messages for the society.
